LAUNCHING!
THE FIRST EVER RAINFOREST CHALLENGE

The aim for launching the first-ever Rainforest Kids Challenge is to educate the children about the importance of the standing rainforests and encourage them to be part of a community that cares about the rainforests and takes action to restore them for a better world.

The Rainforest Kids Challenge is open for all children and teenagers who are committed to practical actions in order to save and protect our forests which are at risk due to climate change and widespread devastation of the ecology. Any group of students may take part in the challenge even if they don't have direct access to a forest in their territory, as long as they are mobilized to act on any problem that has a direct or indirect impact on the forest.

For example, actions from one's home, community or neighbourhood can make people aware of the importance of changing habits to reduce carbon emission, thereby contributing to saving our most precious natural lungs- the rainforests.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, groups must respect the recommendations of health authorities and comply with social distance norms to carry out any of the actions involved in this contest in their country.

The Design for Change stories are judged based on the following variables:

Easy to replicate | Innovative | Subject to technological development | Scalable | Sustainable | FIDS framework

The DFC judges look for stories led by children, where they choose to tackle challenges that directly bother them. The judges also look for evidence of children who engage with the people directly affected by the challenge at hand and who understand their needs and perspectives to design a solution for that challenge.

Due to the difficulties imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and the interruption of classes, the Rainforest Kids challenge 2021 will select ongoing initiatives in which students have already carried out at least a couple of actions to transform the problem chosen by the team.

4 WINNING SOLUTIONS WILL GET A CHANCE TO WIN PRIZES WORTH 2000 USD PER PROJECT.

A maximum of 4 solutions will be chosen. Each winning solution will earn $2,000.00 (two thousand USD) as an award which will be split in two ways. $1000 will go directly to the winning project as a cash prize and the other $1000 will be donated on behalf of the team to an NGO working for the cause of saving and protecting the Rainforest.


The $1,000.00 cash can be invested in two ways:

(I) Approximately $ 500 (five hundred USD) to be used as a celebration with team members [party, outing or any other alternative that students and the educator may choose as long as they respect the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic]


(II) Approximately $ 500 (five hundred USD), as a financial investment for the continuity and improvement of the awarded project.
This decision must be taken by mutual agreement between the project members and the educator. The amount in question will be delivered to the educator who will be responsible for the recommendation mentioned above. The teams will send us pictures to share what they have done, so that the same can be shared on social media etc.

This inventory list will be useful in developing innovative solutions that can accelerate the bioeconomy and strengthen the people of the forest.
